THe Ahura and Div pt I

View this post on Instagram

In ancient Persia Ahura is a term used as an title meaning "Lord" or "Mighty." In my piece "The Devil in Persia and the Near East" I go into how the term "Div/Dev" is utilized as a term for a class of beings that has been identified as some of the white tribes that first invaded ancient Persia. Later both terms became abstracted so that Ahura was applied to the Avestan God Ahura Mazda (Wise Lord) and the Divs became the "white devils" of myth. When these white tribes passed through Persia and flooded into the Indian subcontinent they flipped the polarity of the terminology. They utilized "Div" (which became Daevas) for the "good" deities and corrupted "Ahura" (which became asura) as a term for the "bad" deities. Yet when one does a firm reading of Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata many of the daevas are "invading" the land (like Indra) and the asuras are already present in the land. Also many of the daevas are presented as white skinned while the asuras are presented as dark skinned. When you further research you will find that many of the asuras demonized (such as Ravana) in these epics were actually worshiped and are still worshiped in some quarters of southern India and Sri Lanka by the darker Tamil Indic peoples. They are not worshiped as "evil" either. They are worshiped in their original form before they were demonized. In fact a class of demonic beings in Indian literature, the Rakshasa, are actually identified historically with specific ancient Sri Lankan groups. #Div #Ahura #Daeva #Asura #AegeanEvent #ScienceOfSelf
